The BC Folk Song Project brings together four of Vancouver Island's most prolific and talented songwriters to showcase original music inspired by true stories drawn from Canadian history.

KATRINA KADOSKI is originally from Fort McMurray. Katrina's mom recalls her making up songs in the crib and all the way through childhood. Kadoski started her music career at a young age, winning Rotary Music Festival's Best Alberta Vocalist at the age of nine and gaining a youth vocalist scholarship. She played the lead role in many school plays starting in grade 1, leading to her love for being on stage and performing. She has studied many years of vocal training in styles including jazz, musical theatre and opera. She has also studied piano, guitar and banjo.

ALLEN DOBB is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose music blends country, folk, and roots traditions with a modern, literate edge. Praised by the Edmonton Journal as “one of the finest and most literate tunesmiths in this country,” Dobb crafts songs that resonate with authenticity and a deep sense of place.

Dobb has performed at major folk festivals including Edmonton, Winnipeg, Mariposa, and Bumbershoot, and toured the U.K. His albums—Horses and Hills, Bottomland, Rosetown, and Alone Together—have earned praise for their depth and authenticity. Americana Highways calls his songs “heart searching and touching, strong and vibrant.”

His latest release, The Afterlife Sessions (2026), recorded live at Vancouver’s Afterlife Studios, is an all-acoustic project featuring Dan Fremlin (mandolin), Ryland Moranz (banjo, guitar), Rob Becker (upright bass), and Trent Freeman (fiddle). “In a time when everyone is talking about AI in music, this project couldn’t be further away from that,” says Dobb. “We just put up the microphones and played.”

CLAIRE COUPLAND is a moving songwriter and compelling guitarist who combines a smooth signature folk finger picking, soaring melodies and a dose of jazz-school chord changes. Claire tours in festivals all over Canada, US, The UK, drawing audiences into her intimate performances. Her music has reached #3 in the national college/community radio charts, had steady CBC & BBC UK airplay, and earns rave reviews from music publications around the world who laud her lyricism, deft guitar playing and rich vocals, and a powerful, yet tender delivery. Claire Coupland brings a graceful contemporary feel to modern folk music, always with a touch of her “wicked sense of humour” (Rik Emmett, Triumph).

KERRI COOMBS lived, wrote and performed in Toronto, Montreal, the United Kingdom and Ireland before settling in Vancouver, Canada. Her curiosity about the world, its people, and its history inform her introspective, sometimes quirky lyrics and diverse melodic tastes. As a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, she has played with over a dozen musical collaborations in venues around the world and produced several concerts, concert series, and festivals. Kerri is the creator of the BC Folk Song Project.
